Security and Privacy starts in our own home. How can we secure our dear home desktops? Basically, there are two important aspects of safety to cosider. The first is the integrity of our data, and for that we must always install an "Antivirus" software. Secondly, is the authentication and authorization to use our data. The simplest thing to do is to install a software which blocks any open door in our home computer. This kind of software is called a "Firewall". Nowadays, software security suites often come bundled together with an Antivirus solution and a Firewall solution. You do not need to pay extra money for them, as thanks to Open Source and Free Software you can get them for nothing. Open Source solutions are often more reliable since they are updated very often by millions of users worldwide. In my case, I use Kmyfirewall and Klam Antivirus because I operate in a Linux environment. Linux is less prone to virus attacks but equally prone to unauthorized access attacks.
